Starr, Model 1858 Navy, CAL: 38? (Micrometer- Barrel: 0.3830'', Cylinder: 0.3820), MFG: 1859-63, SN: 1246 (on cylinder), Double Action Percussion Revolver, 6'' barrel. This revolver's design was unique, perhaps a bit ahead of it's time. Rather than a simple trigger pull or hammer manipulation, the Starr had two firing controls, a forward firing-lever (which we know today as a trigger) & back-mounted trigger, which really was more like a sear. The American Rifleman website explains in depth how this unique system functions. The wood grips are good, with the light checkered pattern mostly worn smooth & minor contusions & nicks. The metal finish has toned to a mix of gun metal grey & thin brown patina, with some spotting & pitting. Original fixed front sight. Bore is fair, with spotting & pitting, rifling visible. Action & cyliner timing appear to function properly. One nipple on the cylinder is missing. A scarce revolver with a unique firing system. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 3000
