PRESENTATION SPECIAL ORDER Winchester, Model 92 SRC, marked 44 WCF, MFG. 1895, SN: 46032, Lever Action Rifle, 20'' Round Barrel, Full mag. The carbine is engraved on the left side of the receiver ''To DENMARK, From Frederic Bonner August 1895''. Frederic Bonner was the editor & owner of the well known New York Ledger having taken it over with his two brothers at his father's retirement as owner & publisher. The rifle was a special gift from Mr. Bonner to Ledger writer who went by the ''Pen'' name ''Denmark''. It is assumed that Demark was friend & contributing author Wilhelm Dinesen. The carbine comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records Letter that specifies that this rifle was ordered with a ''X Stock'' & was shipped in July 1895. Destination is not specified, but it was likely sent to one of the famous New York authorized dealers & engraving houses where it was engraved with the presentation notation & presented to Denmark in August 1895. Unfortunately, Denmark passed away in December of that same year & the rifle was probably passed to his daughter Karen Blixen, who was quite famous herself & who's life later inspired the movie ''Out of Africa''. Condition: The original ''X'' wood stocks are excellent & solid, with wonderful grain. They carry the original finish, with light handling dings, scuffs & blemishes. The barrel & mag carry 90% coverage of original factory blue toning to a plum/gray patina as it thins. The receiver has fully worn a gun metal gray. Bore is very good. Fitted with a carbine ladder rear sight & carbine box front sight. Metal carbine buttplate. Original saddle ring, with leather strap. Tight smooth action. A unique special order rifle with fantastic presentation prominence & history.* Antique No FFL Req.. - Value: 5000 to 10000
