Description

Whitney Phoenix, Sporting Rifle, CAL: 44, MFG: 1867-81, SN: 1754, Single Shot Rolling Breech Block Rifle, 30 3/8'' Octagon barrel. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked ''PAT MAY 26.74'', ''PHOENIX. CAL. 44.''. The original straight grip wood stocks are very good, with thinning to what appears to be the original finish. They display a couple short grain cracks, small contusions, scrapes & small chipping at the toe. The metal has fully toned to an even brown patina, with some spotting & speckling. Bore is dark & with pitting amongst strong rifling. The barrel has an open rear dovetail & fixed blade front sight. Buttstock carries a smooth crescent metal buttplate. Estimated production of less than 2,000 Sporting Rifles. The Whitney name did not appear on these rifles. A rare & unique antique rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 600 to 1200
