RARE Winchester, Model 62 ''5'' SPOT Gallery Gun, CAL: .22 S, MFG: 1937, SN: 52257A, Pump Action Rifle, 23'' Round tapered barrel, 2/3 mag. The original wood stocks are very good & solid. Original finish has dulled from gallery use, with typical scratches, scrapes & contusions. The left side of the stock has 2 1/4'' circle brand with ''5'' SPOT on the inside. As the brand indicates, this rifle was used in the ''5'' SPOT shooting gallery in Michigan during the mid to late 1930's. Other examples from this gallery have brought large premiums, despite most not surviving in high or original condition. The metal surfaces of this rifle have toned to a mix of gun metal gray, brown patina & remnants of blue in protected areas. Bore is surprisingly excellent, bright & shiny. Mag tube has the common cartridge shaped gallery short opening. The barrel is fitted with the standard adjustable rear & small blade front sight. Buttstock carries a Winchester, checkered black plastic buttplate. ''.22 SHORT'' only models, without the ''Winchester'' roll die receiver marking, are more scarce than the so-called stamped ''Gallery Rifles'' & bring a premium.
