SCARCE, Smith & Wesson, Model 17 K22 Harvey .224 Kay-Chuck, CAL: .224, MFG: 1951, SN: K126053, Double Action Revolver, 6'' barrel. Jim Harvey was a S&W employee who personally experimented in conversion of S&W pistols into other calibers or wildcat calibers. This conversion is one of 300 K22 revolvers to the .224 caliber. It is believed that Jim Harvey converted the first 60 or so pistols & then Bennett gun works of Delmar, NY constructed the rest of the conversions. Harvey .224 Kay-Chuks were never commercially produced by S&W. The earlier conversions have no ''Kay-Chuk'' markings, where as this fine example has ''Harvey .224 Kay-Chuk'' stamped on the barrel & the right grip frame is stamped ''Bennett Gun Works/ Delmar, NY'' confirming a later conversion. The frame, cylinder, barrel & butt all display a leaf, acorn & ornamental hand engraving, with border accents around the company name & original caliber marking. The S&W logo medallion, checkered wood grips are excellent, with a gloss finish. The metal blue finish rates 98% overall, with areas thinning on the triggerguard beginning to tone to brown patina. The checkered hammer & trigger are case-hardened, with strong case-colors remaining. Bore is excellent, near mint. The frame holds an adjustable square notch rear sight & elevated blade front sight. Another sign of the Bennett conversions is the top strap has a Bennett installed scope rail. This wonderful pistol is accompanied by a RCBS .224 Die Set & (244) .224 unprimed brass. which grade very good. It's rare to see an engraved version of this pistol & complete package such as this for such a scarce gun.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 3500
