RARE!! Remington-UMC, Model of 1911, CAL: 45 ACP, MFG: 1917, SN: N02029, Semi Auto Pistol, 5'' barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY'' in front of the trigger guard. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped ''MODEL OF 1911/U.S.ARMY CALIBER.45'' in two lines. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the three-line ''COLTS PT.F.A.MFG.CO.'' patent dates followed by ''REMINGTON/UMC'' in a circle & ''MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO.INC./BRIDGEPORT, CONN.U.S.A.'' in three lines. The initials of Ordnance Inspector Maj. Edmund E. Chapman, ''E.E.C.'', are stamped on the right side of the frame below the slide stop & the ''Eagle Head/E28'' Ordnance inspection mark is stamped between the initials & the magazine release. The original checkered wood grips are excellent, with minor contusions, scrapes & scratches. The original metal blue finish rates 60% overall, with areas thinning &toning to a mix of metal grey & brown patina. These pistols were of high quality, but the blued finish was not durable as most examples today have a poor finish, with little to no blue remaining. That being said, the amount of blue left on this example is considerable & rarely seen. Bore is excellent, with sharp rifling. The slide holds a small half-moon front sight & fixed notch rear sight. On Dec 29 1917 Remington received a contract for 150,000 M1911 pistols, later revised to 500,000. However, Remington-UMC manufactured only 21,677 Model 1911 pistols before the end of the war & the contract was cancelled. This is an excellent original example of these hard to find Remington-UMC Model 1911 pistols. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 5000 to 7000
