Description

Winchester, Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine, 2nd variation, .44 Henry Cal., MFG. 1869, SN: 21808, Lever Action Rifle, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag. Rare early carbine with a Henry marked barrel. The address atop the barrel is still very sharp. The original wood stocks are excellent & solid. The stocks original finish has thinned & darkened from use & oils, with some added oils or protective finish. Stock has a repaired chip in the upper left corner of the tang & a small missing chip at the right corner. There are handling marks, scrapes & small contusions. The barrel & mag display 85% coverage of what appears to be the original metal blue finish, with some added finish in areas of previous wear or light pitting. The blue is starting to tone to a brown patina in areas of thinning. The lever & hammer retain muted remains of case-colors. The brass receiver & buttplate have a nicely aged patina. Bore is excellent. The barrel carries the original flip-up rear sight, with 1,3 & 5 markings for 100, 300 & 500 YDS & a standard pinch blade barrel band front sight. Stock carries a brass trapdoor crescent buttplate. A staple mounted saddle ring is located on the left side of the receiver. The numbers ''282'' are stamped on the rear portion of the right side of receiver. The SN is stamped on the lower tang. Tight, smooth action & appears mechanically sound. This early 1866 SRC has a wonderful aged appearance & these rifles are hard to find in this well maintained condition.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 15000 to 18000
