Winchester, Model 1873, 3rd Variation, CAL: 44 WCF, MFG: 1883, SN: 117158A, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' octagon barrel. The straight grip wood stock & forend are good & solid. However, the stock appears to be a correct period Winchester 1873 replacement, as the fit & finish is not correct, especially around the edges of the receiver & the tangs where there is space & gap issues. The forend appears original. The wood displays missing slivers & edge chips, with numerous contusions, nicks & dings. The largest missing sliver, 3'', is on the left upper edge of the forend. Finishes appear mostly original, but with layers of added oils over time. The original metal finish has toned an even chocolate brown patina, with edges & areas worn to a gun metal gray. The upper tang has a slightly warped or bent downward appearance. Bore is fair, dark & rough. The barrel holds an adjustable rear sight & pinched silver blade front sight. Stock carries a sliding trapdoor, crescent metal buttplate. Lower tang screw appears to be a more modern replacement. Comes with a Cody Winchester factory letter confirming configuration & dates. The rifle has an authentic & worn western frontier appearance. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
