RARE, Winchester Model 1885 High Wall, CAL: marked 32-40, MFG: 1891, SN: 45048, Lever Action Falling Block Single Shot Rifle, 30'' #3 stamped octagon barrel. The Special Order straight grip Deluxe ''X'' grade wood stock & inlayed ebony tip forearm are excellent & rare. It is unusual to order non-checkered deluxe grade wood. The grain & contrast of the wood is fabulous. The finish shows thinning & flaking. There is two tight grain cracks on the left side of wrist emanating from the upper & lower tangs, an some other minor contusions, scrapes & scratcher. The barrel retains 70% coverage of original blue finish toning to a brown patina as it thins. The case-hardened receiver, level & hammer have all worn gun metal gray, with shadowy outlines of case-colors & spotty brown patina. The barrel is a #3 weight barrel, as stamped ahead of the forearm & under the forearm, as is the matching caliber marking. Bore is very good, with areas of roughness amongst the proud rifling. The receiver is fitted with a Lyman flip-up adjustable tang sight, while the barrel carries an adjustable rear & small blade front sights. Buttstock carries a smooth, crescent metal buttplate. Plain trigger. Comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records Letter confirming the configuration, deluxe ''x'' wood & dates. A wonderful & original special order 1885 high wall.
