RARE DELUXE Standard Arms, Model G, .35 REM Cal., MFG: 1909-20, SN: 7477, Pump Action & Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' Round barrel, Philadelphian Morris F. Smith had a number of firearms patents, some of which were rolled into the 1906 patent number 314,242 for a unique ''automatic gas-operated'' rifle, which were used as the basis for the Standard Arms. Other semi auto rifles of the era like Remington & Winchesters relied on blowback & recoil to work their actions, making Smith's ''gas-operated'' rifle unique. The original deluxe checkered & flat pistol grip wood stock on this example is very good & solid. The stock carries numerous small scuffs, scratches & contusions, with a few small gouges holding some filler. There are two tight 1'' grain cracks, one on each side of the wrist. The forearm & buttplate are of an elaborate cast brass, which were supposedly manufactured & provided to the Standard Arms Co. from the famous House of Tiffany foundry. The factory metal blue finish on the barrel rates 85%, while the finish on the receiver & mag tube has about 80% coverage of a blue, some toning to a brown patina & added tones. Bore is excellent, with some slight roughness amongst strong rifling. The rifle is fitted with a Marbles folding tang sight, open rear sight slot & small blade front sight. Interesting & rare vintage Semi auto/pump rifle, with approximately 8,000 total produced. Any Standard Arms rifle is fairly rare, but a flat pistol grip deluxe example is extremely rare & collectible. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
