FANTASTIC E.F. Buchel (German) SxS Shotgun, CAL: 16 GA, MFG: Antique, SN: N/A, Break Action Shotgun, 30'' Damascus barrels. The original carved, checkered, beaded cheek & capped pistol grip wood stocks are excellent. The stocks are beautifully carved in a European style, with a buck deer vignette on the left, accompanied by wonderful floral, vine & scroll carving on the grip, wrist & forend. There is even a small scarecrow carved into the background of the deer vignette, which speaks to the detail & artistic nature of the artisan who carved the wood. The forend has an inlay at the tip. The wood has been lightly sanded & shows some striations from sanding under the current finish. There are other minor contusions, scratches & scrapes. The Damascus patterns on the barrels is prominent & visually excellent, with a smooth toned chocolate brown patina & areas worn thin to a gun metal gray. The top of the barrel rib is marked ''E.F. Buchel in Mehlis''. The receiver, trigger guard, break lever & forend release lever are all entirely engraved in an intricate ornamental scroll pattern. There are many different parts displaying very finely executed gold inlaid game animals & gold inlaid scroll work & border. The left side of the receiver exhibits a gold inlaid fox & bird game scene, with gold inlaid scroll accents. The right side of the receiver has a gold inlaid dog & quail game scene, with the same gold inlaid scroll accents. The bottom of the receiver has a gold inlaid buck deer vignette, with a gold inlaid scroll border & additional gold inlaid scroll near the forend. The trigger guard has a gold inlaid pheasant, with gold inlaid scroll accents. The tops of the barrels, receiver & break lever also display gold inlaid scrolls. Additionally, the wording at the safety & on the rib is also inlaid with gold. There's a lot of gold here! Bores are fair & clean, but scarred & pitted. The right barrel has a notch in the extractor which allows for the gun to be temporarily sleeved to shoot either a small gauge (410) shotgun shell or a rifle round. The solid matted rib holds a folding leaf rear sight which lays flush into the rib & single ivory front bead. Stock carries the original embossed buttplate. Sling loops present. Although there is not much information on this maker, the beauty & quality of the craftsmanship speaks for itself regarding the German artist who hand crafted this firearm. Overall fantastic & highly collectible.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 4000 to 7000
