RARE Winchester, Model 1897 Engraved Pigeon Grade, 12 GA., MFG: 1913, SN: 585896, Pump Action Shotgun, 32'' no rib barrel, Full choke, Black Diamond Pigeon Grade, Take down, The original deluxe checkered & straight grip wood stocks are very good & solid. They display the original finish, with an added layer of finish to the stock & a few minor finish level scuffs or dings. The forearm has darkened from use & much of the original checkering has worn smooth. Black diamonds located in the wrist. The original metal blue finish rate 30% overall. Receiver displays panel scene engraving of a live pigeon shoot on the left, grouse hunter & dog on the right, & American scroll & border engraving on the underside& trigger guard. There is an engraved standing pigeon located behind the hammer. Trigger guard is also factory engraved ''P. J. FORD.''. There is a story this shotgun was presented to or at least was owned by an early member of the Ford automobile family, but no records or documents exist to prove that prominence. All engraving, lettering & address are legible. A fixed ''V'' rear sight has been added to the bridge of the receiver, while the barrel carries a single gold bead. The bore is very good. Stock carries a hardened solid red recoil pad. Esthetically, a very nice example of a fairly rare shotgun. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 4500
