RARE U.S. Springfield Musket Bannermann Quaker/Cadet Trainer, MFG: 1870's, Cal. 58, S/N: none, 28'' barrel. This is a very nice example of the wooden barreled muskets made by the famous Francis Bannerman firm for use by school cadets & the Boy's Brigades popular throughout the country in the late 19th century. The musket uses a real, U.S. Model 1863 lock with a special cast metal breech-piece mated to a wooden barrel that terminates in a matching metal barrel section, complete with removable ramrod. The barrel retains about 15% of its original black painted finish with even wear & flaking along its length. The functional lock & have display case-colors, while the breech section, trigger guard, buttplate, barrel bands & barrel end have developed a mostly brown finish with some areas of scattered rust erosion. The walnut stock is very good condition with numerous small handling marks & scratches scattered about the original oil finish. This is a neat item, perfect as a decorative accent piece & an interesting bit of historical memorabilia as well. No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
