Description

Colt, SAA, U.S Artillery Pistol, CAL: 45, MFG: 1874 (frame SN), SN: 10717, Single Action Revolver, 5 1/2'' barrel. Ainsworth inspected Colts are the first of the U.S. Colt SAA, as seen only through SN 14998 & rarely encountered today. These guns were frequently rebuilt in arsenals & therefore rarely encountered with original matching parts. The top of the barrel is stamped ''COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.'', the left side of the frame is marked with a three line patent dates ''PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871, JULY. 2, 1872'', followed by the U.S ownership stamp. The frame is stamped '' 10717'', the trigger guard is stamped ''132654'' over ''K'', the butt is stamped ''138777'' over ''K'' & the cylinder has a partial SN '' 7492''. The bottom of both grips are stamped ''R.A.C''. The right grip has a ''R.A.C'' cartouche inside rectangle. The wood grips are excellent, with a small corner chip repair on the bottom of the left grip, along with other very minor contusions & scrapes. The metal blue finish on the barrel, cylinder rates 85%, with a drag line & wear at the muzzle & cylinder ends. The backstrap & trigger guard are a mix of remaining blue & areas worn to metal gray, with a thin brown patina. The case-hardened frame retains outlines & faded case-colors. Bore is excellent, with minor spotting & speckling. The barrel carries a blade front sight & the frame has an integrated rear groove. Action is tight & appears to function properly. The Colt Single Action Army is a worldwide icon of the U.S. & the Western Frontier. Wielded by both the long arm of the law, military & bad men, the famous Single Action Army became well-known as the Peacemaker. Excellent example.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 7000 to 10000
