Colt, SAA, Frontier Six Shooter, CAL: 44-40, MFG: 1898, SN: 177435, Single Action Revolver, 7 1/2'' barrel. This gun comes with a Cody Colt Factory Records letter, which confirms configuration, dates & shipping information. It indicates it was originally shipped to Montgomery Ward & Company (M.W. &.Co.) of Chicago, IL on April 8th, 1898 in a (6) gun shipment. This pistol is accompanied by the original leather M.W & Co embossed holster, which is very rare to still be together. The front is impressed with the M.W & Co circular logo, the caliber (44), barrel length (7 1/2) & holster number (114). The original Rampant Colt, checkered hard rubber grips are excellent, with minor handling marks. The top of the barrel is marked in a single line address ''COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A'', roll stamped on the left side of the barrell ''COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER'', the left side of the frame is stamped patent dates in two lines ''PAT SEPT 19 1871, JULY 2,-72, JAN 19,-75'', followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Full & matching SN is stamped on the frame, trigger guard & butt. The metal blue finish has worn to a mix of remaining original blue in more protected areas & a smooth gun metal gray. The case-hardened frame display faded outlines of muted case-colors. Bore is very good, with intermittent spotting near the muzzle, amongst proud rifling. The barrel holds a half-moon blade front sight. A nice example of an original Colt SAA. This set should be enticing to a Colt collector.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 6000 to 10000
