Colt, Model 1851 Navy, 1st Year Production, CAL: 36, MFG: 1851, SN: 4752, Single Action Percussion Revolver, 7 1/2'' barrel. The top of the barrel is marked ''ADDRESS SAM L COLT NEW YORK CITY''. The left side of the frame is marked ''COLT'S PATENT''. The cylinder is marked ''COLT'S PATENT No. 4752''. The full SN is displayed on the barrel, frame, trigger guard & butt. The wood grips are good & solid. The right grip has a missing corner chip & the wood displays other dings, nicks & scrapes. The metal finish is a mix of worn gun metal gray, rust brown & old added finish. The metal surfaces display consistent pitting & abrasions. The trigger guard & backstrap are brass, displaying an aged patina & dings. Bore is fair, with spotting & pitting amongst strong rifling. Crude screw replacements on frame & barrel with headed pegs. As manufactured in 1851, this first year revolver was likely utilized during the Civil War & beyond & carries all the aesthetic of all it years of Old West use.
