Winchester, Model 1873 Saddle Ring ''Trapper'', 3rd variation, 44 Cal., MFG: 1883, SN: 134715, Lever Action Carbine, 16 1/4'' Round barrel, Full mag. While this gun presents as a Trapper style rifle due to it's size & barrel length, we believe this example may have originally left the factory as a 1873 SRC that has been cutdown. The wood stock is fair & solid, having large splice wood repairs on each side of the wrist & a tight 2 1/2'' stress crack along the upper comb emanating from the upper tang & a few shorter cracks at the buttend. The stock has some fit issues along the tangs & numerous contusions, scratches & scrapes. The forearm is a replacement, which remains in excellent condition, with some minor contusions & scrapes. The wood has a nice aged & darkened appearance. The metal surfaces have all worn to a gun metal gray, with a thin layer of brown patina. There is a fair amount of cleaned pitting, nicks & abrasions to the metal. Barrel is fitted with a fixed ''V'' rear & pinch blade front sight on the front barrel band. Bore is fair, with scarring, pitting & a couple of rings. Metal carbine buttplate. Staple saddle ring. Replaced dust cover. All appears to function properly. Although this example isn't an authentic Trapper, this is a good opportunity to get a Trapper style rifle for a fraction of the cost of a real one. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
