Description

Marlin, Model 1881, marked 40-60 Cal., MFG. 1882, SN: 1561, Lever Action Rifle, 28'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are vey good & solid, displaying the original finish, with a thin layer of added oils or finish. The stocks display several minor contusions, scratches or scrapes. There is a short 2'' tight hairline crack on the right side of the forend against the receiver. There is also a thin 3/4'' wood fill that could have been an original fix of a flaw in the wood. The metal surfaces have worn mostly gun metal gray, with remains of blue in more protected areas (much more blue on left side of receiver) & lots of chocolate brown spotting. Barrel carries original adjustable rear sight & a Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Bore is excellent. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. Action remains tight & smooth. The rifle has a wonderful old West esthetic & is an early era collectible lever. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 3000
