Marlin, Model 1881, marked 38-55 Cal., MFG. 1889, SN: 22011, Lever Action Rifle, 28'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are vey good & solid, displaying worn original finish. The stocks display numerous minor contusions, scratches & scrapes. There are a couple of 1/2'' hairline crack at the toe & another 1 1/4'' tight hairline on the right side of the forearm. The metal surfaces have a unique scale type texture, with a chocolate brown patina & some wear to a gun metal gray. Barrel carries an adjustable rear sight missing the elevator & a Rocky Mountain front blade sight. Bore is very good, with some roughness amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. Lever retention screw may be. The action remains tight & smooth. The rifle has a wonderful Old West esthetic & is an early era collectible lever.
