Marlin, Model 1889, marked 44 W. Cal., MFG. 1891, SN: 39605, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' Round barrel, Full mag., This was Marlin's first lever action with side-ejection. It lead to the model 1894 & eventually to all modern Marlin lever action. The factory straight grip wood stocks are fair, but solid. There are numerous scuffs, scratches, scratches & contusions. There is a large 2'' missing toe break. There are corner chips at the upper corner of the wrist at the receiver. The wrist has a tight 2'' hairline crack & a screw added for stability. The forend also has 50+ kill notches & a 3'' crack on the belly, along with several chips or missing slivers at the upper edges. The stocks were sanded at one point as metal is proud to wood, with finish worn off of the stock & a thick coat of refinish on the forend. The metal has worn to a combination of gun metal gray & a spotty thin brown patina. The barrel has an open rear dovetail & a front sight with an ivory blade. Bore is very good, with some spotty roughness amongst strong rifling. The stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. Some of the screws are buggered, with a missing screw in the forend cap. A well used antique Marlin Lever that appears to have been used on many successful hunts. No FFL Req. - Value: 250 to 500
