Remington, Model 8, marked .30-30 Rem Cal., MFG. 1910, SN: 19971, Semi-auto take-down rifle, 22'' barrel, 5 shot fixed magazine. This rifle is of the early .30 Rem caliber rifles which were originally marked ''30-30 REM'' as a marketing attempt to piggyback off the success of Winchester's rimmed 30-30 cal. This caused much confusion on these early rifles as they shot only a rimless cartridge & therefore would not handle the rimmed 30-30 cartridge. Remington was forced to change the barrel marking on all future .30 caliber rifles, but the early examples with the 30-30 stamping were still in the hands of the public. These early stamped rifles are much rarer & more desirable among collectors. The original straight grip stock & forearm are very good, but the stock has been shortened to an LOP to 13 1/2'' over pad. The stocks appear to carry the original finish wearing thin at the wrist & forend. There are a few minor scratches & contusions. The receiver carries 80% of the original blue, with some rust speckling. The receiver has worn mostly silver, with spotty areas of brown patina. The barrel carries a standard adjustable rear & a front blade sight that has some solder on the blade. Very good bore. Buttstock carries a deteriorating recoil pad. Tight action. A rarer variation. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 600
