Description

FANTASTIC FACTORY ENGRAVED Remington Model 10, ''F'' Premier Grade, (Grade 6), CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1908-29, SN: U65921, Pump Action Repeater Shotgun, Choke: FULL, 30'' Matted solid rib barrel. Remington's first pump-action six-shot repeating shotgun. Designer/Inventor John D. Pederson, with improvements by C.C. Loomis & R. Barger. Approximately: 275,600 produced between 1908-29. The ''F'' Premier Grade or ''Grade 6'' was the highest-custom shop grade of the early Remington Pump Shotgun manufactured. It featured extensive full coverage engraving, with multiple separate game scene vignettes on the large receiver side panels. Remington's Master Engravers at this time were not allowed to sign their work, as Remington wanted their clients to buy a ''Remington'' engraved firearm, rather than a ''Joseph F. Loy'' or ''Simeon S. Rogers'' engraved firearm. These engravings are attributed to Remington's Master engraver Joseph Loy, whose animal engravings were true works of art & who served double duty as both the custom shop foreman & as the master engraver during this era. The animal engravings include 2 vignettes on the right side: a pair of snipe & a pair of flying mallards exiting a pond. The left side vignettes feature a pair of grouse, & a pair of hunting dogs on. Additional dog's profile engraved on bottom of trigger guard. The remainder of the receiver is filled with beautiful floral, vine, foliate scrolls, punch dot & ornamental accent & border engravings. The same engravings cover the first 5'' of the barrel, the forend cap, trigger guard,& the upper & lower tangs. The deluxe, checkered, & capped pistol grip Circassian Walnut stocks are excellent. They feature ornate patterns, fine point hand checkering. The stocks display beautiful grain, with very minor wear to the wood & finish. The left side of the wrist appears to have a very tightly repaired stress crack, which is solid & visually not distracting. The original metal blue finish rates 98% overall. Bore is excellent. As a curiosity, amongst the F engraving on the barrel, it is stamped MODEL10-C. Normally the C would indicate TRAP Grade, which were not engraved, however, the barrel is correctly SN match stamped & is clearly factory originally engraved & blued. The matted solid rib holds a single silver front bead. Buttstock carries a period ventilated HAWKINS recoil pad, which was the brand that was often factory installed at the plant. This shotgun is a wonderful example of hand craftmanship & the Ilion N.Y. Remington Custom Shop artistry. LOP: 13 5/8'' over pad. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 6000 to 10000
