FABULOUS FACTORY ENGRAVED Remington Model Semi-Automatic Shotgun or Pre-model 11, ''F'' Premier Grade, (Grade 6), CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1911, SN: 103126, Semi-Auto Shotgun, Choke: FULL, 28'' barrel with ventilated matted rib. The ''F'' Premier Grade or ''Grade 6'' was the highest-custom shop grade of Remington Autoloading Shotgun manufactured. It featured extensive full coverage engraving, with six separate game scene vignettes on the large receiver side panels. Remington's Master Engravers at this time were not allowed to sign their work, as Remington wanted their clients to buy a ''Remington'' engraved firearm, rather than a ''Joseph F. Loy'' or ''Simeon S. Rogers'' engraved firearm. These engravings are attributed to Remington's Master engraver Joseph Loy, who served double duty as both the custom shop foreman & as the master engraver during this era. The animal engravings include 3 vignettes on the right side: a pair of snipe, three mallard ducks landing in a pond setting & a bonding cottontail rabbit in grass. The left side vignettes feature a pair of grouse, a pair of dogs on point & a pair of woodcocks. The remainder of the receiver is filled with beautiful floral, vine, foliate scrolls, punch dot & ornamental accent & border engravings. The same engravings cover the first 5 1/2'' of the barrel, the forend cap, the upper & lower tangs, as well as the trigger guard, which also features a profile head of a hunting dog. The deluxe, checkered, & round pistol grip Circassian Walnut stocks are excellent. They feature ornate pattern, fine point 24 lines per inch hand checkering & a finger groove forend. The stocks display moderate wear & minor contusions or scratches to the wood & finish. The original metal blue finish rates 90% on the receiver. According to the consigner, the previous owner returned the barrel to Remington many decades ago to better secure a couple of the supports on the ventilated rib, it came back properly secure & the blue finish was also factory restored at that time. The blue on the barrel rates 98%. Bore is excellent. The ventilated, matted rib has a single silver front bead. Buttstock carries a ventilated recoil pad & a non-engraved gold initial oval. This shotgun is truly a fine example of turn of the century custom shop & hand built craftsmanship. LOP: 14 3/4'' overpad. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 6000 to 10000
