Eddystone, Model: M1917 Enfield, Cal: .30-06, MFG: 1918, S/N: 422419, Bolt action Rifle, 26'' Barrel. The semi-pistol grip walnut stock is excellent as being lightly sanded & refinished with a high gloss finish. Stock has a worn but still visible stamp on the left side of the stock above the trigger that's reads ''O.G.E.K.'' in a box, there is also another stamp next to that one that is worn & hard to read. Bottom of wrist is marked with a ''P'' in circle proof mark, that also as a faint stamp overtop. Bottom of stock neat the muzzle is marked with a worn & faded three digit stamp. The parkerized metal finish rates 60% overall with areas of cleaned pitting/ patina & wear. Top of receiver is marked ''U.S.'', ''MODEL OF 1917'', ''EDDYSTONE'', & S/N. the top end of the barrel is marked ''H S'', Flaming bomb, & ''P''. Bore is good, bright with thinned rifling. Barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective wings. The rear of the receiver holds a elevation adjustable aperture rear sight marked 2 to 16. the stock carries a steel trapdoor buttplate with some wear. The stock has both bottom sling loops with the stacking swivel. By the end of WW1 about 3/4's of the rifles we took over to Europe would be the M1917 Enfield not the M1903 Springfield, even though the adopted main line infantry rifle at the time was the M1903, & the M1917 was a second line rifle used as a stop gap for the shortage of the M1903 rifles. After WW1 they would go off into storage & be given out/ sold off as foreign aid to many allied country's, & In WW2 they would use the old M1917's as drill rifles & many of them would arm national guard units as the newer more advance rifles would be pulled for use on the front line. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
