Description

RARE!!!, RSAF Enfield, Model: No.4 Mk.1 (T) Trials Rifle, Cal: .303 British, MFG: 1931, S/N: A1878, Bolt action Rifle, 25 1/4'' barrel. Between 1931 & 1933 RSAF Enfield made 2,500 of these No.4 Mk.1 Trials Rifle for testing, these rifles would go into storage after the testing was complete, until the evacuation of Dunkirk. With the massive need for rifles after Dunkirk almost all of the no.4 Mk.1 trials rifles would be refurbished with wartime No.4 parts & put into service. 1,403 of the trials rifles were converted to No.4 Mk1(t) sniper rifles by RSAF Enfield in 1941-42. The rifles were originally fitted with the No 32 MK1 scope. The semi-pistol grip 2 piece wood stock is very good with small nicks, dings, dents, scratches, & wear from use/age. Rifle has a cheek riser screwed onto rear of stock which was done to all of the No.4 Mk1(T) rifles so you could easily use the scope. Right side of stock has a embedded brass disc marked ''N''. Right side of stock has faint remints of paint markings that read ''S?UK''. Bottom of wrist is stamped with a crown over ''13'', E/D combined mark over a arrow. Under that is another faint marking that's hard to read. Top of wrist is marked ''6008'', that marking is supposed to be the scope S/N & is mismatched with the scope on the rifle. The metal still retains some of the original finish but most of the metal is starting to turn to a light brown patina. Left side of wrist band is marked ''G'' crown ''R'', ''ENFIELD'', ''1931'', ''NO4 MK1'', & S/N. rear of receiver is marked with proof marks. Front of receiver is marked ''ENGLAND'' & has some proofs. The bolt is S/N matched. Bore is very good. Has strong rifling with minor roughness in a few spots. Barrel holds a blade front sight with protective ears. Rear of receiver holds a flip up ladder aperture rear sight. Rifle also has mounted a no. 32 Mk 2/1 scope, these scopes were made by Vickers starting in November of 1944. scope is marked ''TEL:STG:NO32 MK 2/1'', ''U.I.C. O.S.1400G.A.'', ''NO551'', & is marked with a arrow. The scope mount is marked ''V34695'', ''KD''. Scope has a leather lens cover. Stock carries a brass trapdoor buttplate. Rifle has bottom mounted sling loops. Rifle comes with a leather m1907 sling. a green metal scope case that is not serialized to the gun or scope, inside scope case is another leather lens cover & a scope tool. This rifle does not bare most of the markings that a true sniper would have had, but these rifles were some of the first snipers made & the regulations on markings were not standardized. It is unclear if this was ever a actual sniper & was converted after the war by someone else. Or if was hastily converted later on in the war so it doesn't have those markings, or if it is truly a sniper & just missed all the stamping that was done. If it was original then it was updated at some point with a different scope & mount since all the numbers do not match & it has a later scope model on it. Either way it is 100% a trials rifle & is a rare piece of history. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 4000 to 10000
