Description

Izhevsk, Model: M91/30 Ex-Dragoon, Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1925, S/N: 9130473451 (barrels S/N: 31578), Bolt action rifle, 29'' barrel. The Mosin rifle originally had three different variants, the long rifle for standard infantry, the dragoon rifle for mounted infantry, & the carbines for the cavalry & special units. During the 1910's & 1920's, Russia started to favor the dragoon rifles over the standard long rifle for main line infantry use. they were the same rifles, the dragoon just had a shorter barrel & was lighter, it is actually the exact dimensions of the later M91/30 model. In 1922 the long rifle production almost completely ended with production switching over to the dragoon rifle, & then later the M91/30 model would be introduced & most of the dragoon rifles Russia had would be converted to the new pattern. The straight wrist wood stock is very good with small nicks, dings, dents, & scratches from use, & has some finish wear. The stock was sanded & re-finished after WW2, evident by the diagonal line in a box refurbishment mark on the right cheek of the stock, the remains of the shellac finish, the toe replacement, & the few wood plug repairs around the stock. There is a clear ''H'' stamp on the bottom of the wrist. The stock has numerus other cartouches all around it. The black metal finish rates 90% overall with areas of light wear. The left side of the receiver is marked with import marks. The top of the receiver is marked with a hammer & sickle in a wheat wreath. The top of the barrel is marked with a hammer & sickle in a wheat wreath, two lines of Russian text that was on all Izhevsk rifles of this vintage, ''1925r'', ''31578'', the Izhevsk bow & arrow stamp, & the diagonal line inside a box refurbishment stamp. Rifle has a S/N matched bolt, magazine floor plate & buttplate. The bore is very good, its bright with strong rifling but the rifling at the muzzle is worn. Rifle has not been counter bored which is rare for rifles that went through refurbishment, since it was standard practice. The barrel holds a post front sight with a protective globe, & a tangent U-notch rear sight marked 1 to 20. the stock carries a smooth steel buttplate with some bluing wear. Rifle has both sling holes for use with dog collar attachments to mount a sling. Rifle comes with dog collars & sling. Rifle also has its cleaning rod. A very nice rifle with lots of history. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 250 to 500
