Finnish (VKT), Model: M39, Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1924 (1942 Barrel), S/N: 57447, Bolt action Rifle, 27'' Barrel. The semi pistol grip wood stock is excellent with very minor nicks, dings, scratches & wear from light use. The stock the post war style stock splice repair. These were done after the war, at arsenals to make one good rifle stock out of two damaged stocks. This type of repair was done to many rifles & is very common to see on any Finnish rifle model. The stock also carries a post war double wood plug butt reinforcement. This post war modification is also very common to find on Finnish rifles. The metal finish rates 95% overall with very little wear. Metal has lacquer stock finish along the stock line, possibly was done at the arsenal. Left side of receiver is marked with the S/N. top of barrel shank is marked ''SA'' in box, ''VKT'' in box, ''D'', S/N, & ''1942''. Left side of barrel is marked ''36'' ''VK'' in a box'' ''00''. Bottom of the receiver tang is marked ''24'', & a faint, worn down marking that looks to be a ''N'' in a circle. The ''SA'' mark is a Finnish army property mark, & the ''D'' mark means this rifle's chamber throat was modified for the longer D166 bullet. Bolt & barrel are S/N matched. Bore is excellent, bright & mirror like with minimal wear. Barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective ears, & a tangent U-notch rear sight marked 2 to 8 on the base & 1.5 to 10 on the ladder. Right side of the U-notch has been bent in slightly from being hit from the rear. The stock carries a blues steel buttplate that has finish wear & scratches. Stock also has both side & bottom sling mounts. Rifle has the cleaning rod. The Finnish M39 Rifles are widely known to be the best Mosin variant & one of the best surplus rifles ever made. This particular example is in excellent condition & would make a fine addition to your collection. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
