PB Beretta, Model: Type I Rifle, Cal: 6.5x50mmR Jap, MFG: 1938-39, S/N: K7154, Bolt action rifle, 30 3/4'' barrel. Italian made rifle for the Japanese navy between 1938-39 because all rifle manufactures in Japan were tied up making rifles for the army, uses the Carcano action but everything else is like a type 38 Arisaka. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is excellent as being cut down, sanded & refinished. The two piece buttstock is factory for all Japanese military rifles of this vintage to make better use of wood, strengthen the toe by switching the grain direction & make toe repaired much easier, since the wood Japan had to work with was lighter but weaker than the wood available by the US & European nations. The metal finish on the barrel is almost completely gone with some thinned bluing remaining & grip patina on the metal. The bluing on the receiver rates 60% with a large spot on the receiver having the bluing completely worn away. The left side of the barrel is marked with the S/N, & a Italian proof. ''PB'' marked on the root of the bolt handle. The bore is very good, its bright with intermittent roughness. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with white paint added, & a V-notch ladder rear sight marked 5 to 24. the stock carries a smooth, rounded steel buttplate with some bluing wear. The rifle has a rear sling loop with a front barrel mounted sling stud. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 150 to 300
