Description

Tokyo Juki Kogyo (under Kokura Supervision), Type 99 Mid war config, Cal: 7.7x58mm, MFG: 1942-44, S/N: 40687 Kana Series Block 37, bolt action rifle, 25 1/2'' barrel. Tokyo Juki Kogyo was one of the four Japanese commercial subcontractors that started making rifles for the army between 1939 to 1945, & Tokyo Juki Kogyo is the only one that had both of the arsenals as supervisors, this rifle being made under Kokura's supervision. Tokyo Juki Kogyo also made less than 100,000 rifles in two serial blocks, with over 3.5 million made these are pretty hard to come by. The semi-pistol grip, two piece wood stock is very good with nicks, dings, dents, scratches & wear from use/age. There is a 8'' crack on the front part of the upper handguard. The blued metal finish rates 80% overall with light rust speckling, & the top of the receiver where the chrysanthemum was ground off has turned to a brown patina. All Japanese rifles at the end of WW2 had their chrysanthemum ground off as a sign of respect since it was considered a property mark to the emperor. Rifles with intact chrysanthemum's are almost all vet bring backs & are rare. The left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, the Kokura arsenal stamp & the Tokyo Juki Kogyo factory mark. This rifle has a S/N matched bolt, which is uncommon since the bolts were taken out & mixed together when they were captured, & were not matched up when they put them back in the rifles. The bore is excellent. Its bright & mirror like with minimal wear. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight, with a aperture ladder rear sight marked 3 to 15. the stock carries a smooth steel, cupped buttplate that has some patina. Rifle has both side sling mounts. Rifle is missing its cleaning rod. Overall a very nice example of a mid war Type 99 that was made by one of the rarer manufactures. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 600
