Description

Golden state arms Corp, P. Beretta licensed, (Springfield armory M1 Garand receiver), Model: Santa Fe M-59 (Copy of the BM-59), Cal: 7.62x51mm NATO, MFG: 1943 receiver, assembled in the 1970's, S/N: 1310856, Semi-auto rifle, 18 1/2'' barrel (21 3/4'' with flash hider). The Beretta BM-59 was a select fire Battle rifle devolved by Beretta in 1959 & adopted by the Italian army to replace their surplus M1 Garands. They developed the rifle off the M1 Garand design & basically just converted them to 7.62 NATO, to take box magazines, to have a fire selector switch, made them a little shorter, added a bi-pod & flash hider. Many of the BM-59s were built off surplus M1 Garand reivers as well as locally made M1 Garands in Italy. In 1964, Golden state arms started making a semi-automatic only copy of the BM-59 that they called the M-59. they did obtain licensing from Beretta to manufacture this copy, some of the rifles are marked that they are Beretta licensed some are. Just like Berretta they were making the rifles off of surplus M1 Garand receivers, & surplus 03-A3 barrels. They did use some actual parts off the BM-59 they got from beretta. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is excellent with minor nicks, dings, & wear. There are no markings on the stock. The parkerized metal finish rates 90% overall, areas of light pitting under the finish from when they were -parkerized after they were assembled. The left side of the receiver is marked ''LICENSED BY P. BERETTA GARDONE, ITALY'', ''SANTA FE M-59'', ''CAL. 7.62MM NATO'', ''GOLDEN STATE ARMS CORP. PASADENA CALIF.''. The top rear of the receiver is marked with the S/N. the spot where the original Springfield armory markings were wiped off is visible through the finish. The right side of the barrel is marked ''D6535448 45 A180A S A''. The top of the bolt is marked with the original Springfield drawing number as well as a added diamond. Many small parts are marked ''PB BM 59''. The bore is very good. Its bright with some light roughness. The barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective wings. The rear of the receiver has a fully adjustable aperture rear sight. The sights on the rifle are right off a standard M1 Garand. The stock carries a grooved, ventilated, rubber recoil pad that's marked P. Beretta, recoil pad has hardened from age and is starting to chip & fall apart. Rifle has side mounted sling loops. Rifle comes with one 20 Rd. mag, but there is a lot of two, 20 Rd. mags for this rifle in this auction, & is lot # 5853. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
