Rast & Gasser, Model: M1898, Cal: 8mm Gasser, MFG: 1915, S/N: 49171, Double action Revolver, 2 1/2'' barrel. The checkered wood grips are very good with light wear & small nicks/dings. The blued metal finish rates 78% overall with areas of scratches, thinning/wear, & patina. The left side of the frame is marked with the S/N, ''PATENT'', ''RAST & GASSER'', ''WIEN'', ''102R'', the top of the frame is marked ''W.n'' Prussian eagle ''15''. The frame, barrel, & cylinder are S/N matched. The bore is excellent, bright with no roughness or visible wear. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a V-notch rear sight. The last revolver adopted by the Austro-Hungarian army it would go on to serve throughout WW1 & WW2. it was originally planned to be replaced by later Semi-Auto pistol designs, the Roth-Krnka M.7 for the cavalry & the Steyer-Hahn M1912 for the infantry, but during WW1 production numbers for the Semi-auto pistols would never catch up for the need of pistols so the revolvers would go on to serve, mainly with NCOs, Officers, & as a secondary weapon to special troops, really any unit whose main job wasn't shooting their pistol. Other nations like Yugoslavia & Italy would go on to use the M1898 up till WW2. The last iteration of a long line of interesting & unique service revolvers. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 400 to 800
