Marlin, Model 1881 Burgess, marked 45 GOVT (45-70) Cal., MFG. 1881 (Antique), SN: 1240, Lever Action Rifle, 28'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are good & solid, displaying the majority of the original finish, which has darkened with age, use & oiles. There is a large area on the left side of the stock where a natural knot & grain swirl have popped, with some cracks & void which look to have had some glue & fill used to try & maintain things in place. The stocks also have several minor contusions, scratches or scrapes. The metal surfaces have worn mostly gun metal gray, with spotty areas of a chocolate brown patina. Barrel carries the original adjustable rear & a small elongated silver blade front sights. Bore is very good, but with some roughness & scarring amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a shotgun style metal buttplate, with upper widow's peak. Action remains tight & smooth. With approximately 20,000 produced in all calibers, these are fairly rare in any found condition. The rifle has a wonderful old West esthetic & is an early era collectible lever. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
