RARE Sharps, Model 1853 Slant Breech Carbine, 52 Cal , MFG 1853-55 Antique, SN 21330, Lever Action, 25'' Round barrel. The Sharps Model 1853, sometime referred to as the Slant Breech or Sloping Breech, was an improvement on earlier carbines. Roughly 10,500 Model 1853 carbines were produced between 1853 & 1858. The top of the barrel is stamped ''SHARPS RIFLE MANUFG CO. HARTFORD. CONN.'' forward of the rear sight. Matching serial number on the barrel under the forearm & top tang. The left side of the receiver is marked with the two line ''SHARPS PATENT'' stamp. The top of the receiver ahead of the SN is a worn ''SHARPS PATENT 1848'' The original wood is good & solid, but has been sanded & refinished, with several areas of fill & evidence of the numerous chips, nicks & dings remaining. The stock carries a hinged patch box & brass carbine buttplate. The rifle's metal surfaces have fully worn a gun metal gray. The barrel is fitted with the forward folding ladder rear sight & standard front sight. Bore is very good, with some roughness amongst strong rifleing. This is a rare example of a Sharps SLANT Breech in complete surviving condition. Antique No FFL Req - Value: 2000 to 4000
