RARE & FANTASTIC Winchester, Model DELUXE 52 ''C'' STANDARD BARREL Target rifle, Marked .22 L. Rifle. Cal., MFG. 1953, SN: 79219C, Bolt Action Rifle, 28'' Standard barrel. The rifle in this auction is a matched companion to the rifle in Lot 4241. These are the only two factory model 52-C DELUXE target rifles known to exist amongst collectors. If you reference Herbert House's book on Winchester Model 52's, there are two factory checkered model 52-B rifles pictured. There owners of those two Deluxe 52-B target rifles have examined these two Deluxe 52-C target rifles & confirmed without hesitation these are truly factory original. Additionally, if you reference Roger Rule's book on the Winchester Model 70, he pictures a Model 70 Target with the same factory Deluxe checkering patterns & factory grip cap. None of the men have previously encountered another 52-C Deluxe Target rifle other than the two offered in these two lots. Both rifles were produced in 1953 & are only 367 SN's apart. This was still early in the production of 52-C rifles & has lead to speculations that the two rifles were produced by the factory for display & marketing at various national target shooting competitions. If not the case, they were at the very least likely custom ordered at the same time & for the same customer. The two rifles remain in almost identical original & excellent overall condition. Regarding the rifle in this lot, the original deluxe, hand checkered & capped pistol grip ''Marksman'' target stock is excellent. There are a few minor to small scratches, rubs & areas of finish wear to the otherwise excellent original finish. The checkering remains sharp & the overall appearance of the stock is excellent. The original metal blue finish rates 98% overall, while the receiver is starting to tone to a slight plum patina. Bore is excellent & bright. The receiver & barrel carry the three mounting blocks for scope or receiver sight attachment. Although this is simply a ''Standard'' barrel, the standard barrel is typically more desired by collectors, as most 52C target rifles carried a ''Heavy'' barrel, making ''Standard'' barrel examples rarer. The rifle has the adjustable ''Micro Motion'' trigger. The stock is fitted with the original checkered metal buttplate. Also mounted with the original forward hand stop & sling loops. The rifle carries the original Winchester stamped 5 round mag. An excellent opportunity to purchase this rare deluxe target rifle, along with its companion deluxe target rifle in the next lot.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 5000 to 6500
