C.J. Hamilton & Son, Model The Hamilton Rifle No. 27 (USA produced version), .22 LR, MFG 1907-30, Single Shot, Tip-up Break Action Rifle, SN: none, 14 7/8'' round barrel. 29 1/2'' overall length. Circa 1906 through 1940's Cloverine Salve ran ads in comic books & newspapers asking kids to sell their salve & offering awards for the amount of product sold. The prizes include such pieces as this Hamilton rifle, a Red Ryder BB gun, toys & more. One of the first rifles offered in the Cloverine ads was the Hamilton Model 27 rifle. Other companies duplicated these award driven sales opportunities for kids selling magazines, seeds & other household items. The replaced flat board, straight grip, walnut stained birch stocks are very good & solid. The stock has a long area of fill behind the trigger guard. The stocks have a few minor of scratches & contusions to the very good finish. The metal has worn to a mix of gun metal gray & thin brown patina, with some remains of original blue mixed in. Some light pitting & speckling. The sides of the receiver & on the barrel have been electric pencil engraved with a 7 digit number. Receive screw & nut holding on the stock is a replacement. Steel rolled barrel over brass bore liner, 6 groove bore with 1 turn in 15''. Bore is good. Blade front & early rear sight combination. ''S'' shaped trigger guard, with replacement screw.
