Description

A.H. Fox, Sterlingworth, CAL: 12GA, MFG: 1929, SN: 123592, Break Action SxS Shotgun, Choke: MOD/IC, 30'' barrels. This gun was made by the A.H. Fox Gun Company, Philadelphia, Pa. in 1929 and was the upgraded Sterlingworth Model. According to Michael McIntosh in A.H. Fox, these were considered ''The Finest Gun In The World''. The quality of the shotgun was equal to the Parkers and preferred by many.'' President Theodore Roosevelt once said '' I have a Fox No.12 shotgun, no better gun was ever made.'' In 1930 A.H. Fox Co. was sold to the Savage Company. The guns produced before this change are considered Fox's finest examples. Factory markings on the barrels & frame. The original checkered round knob wood stocks are very good & solid, having been sanded & refinished. There is a chip repair on the upper right hand corner of the stock where the wood meets metal, a small grain 1/2'' grain crack under the repair & a small filled crack on the right side of the wrist, coming off the lower tang. There is a matching grain crack on the left side of the stock, 1/2'' below the top left corner. Checkering on the right side has been partially re-traced. The old re-blued finish on the compressed steel barrels has toned to a smooth chocolate patina, with some of the compressed steel pattern still visible. The case-hardened frame still retains excellent case-colors, with concentrated wear at the carry point. Bores are very good & bright, with visible striations & light wear from honest use. The solid, matted rib holds a single steel front bead. Stock has a Hawkins ventilated red rubber recoil pad. Double triggers. LOP: 14 7/8'', DAH: 1 7/8'', DAC: 1 1/2''. A good shooter 12GA. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 800 to 1500
