ENGRAVED Remington, Model 10 ''D'' or PEERLESS GRADE, 12 GA., MFG. Early 1910's, SN: U69562, Pump Action Shotgun, 30'' Matted solid rib barrel, Marked Full. This grade ''D'' is a special ordered, hand engraved shotgun coming from Remington's Custom shop during its golden age of production. Remington marketed their work as having ''a rich scroll hand engraving''. All sides of the receiver is covered in scroll work. Engraving can also be found on the base of the barrel, the barrel, the trigger guard & action pump arm. According to Remington's Pre-WWI catalogs, the Model 10 D, E & F grades had ''all working parts hand polished''. The specifications for the ''10 D'' stock & forearm were a high grade of English walnut displaying checkering patterns that were to 22 lines-per-inch. The round pistol grip, high grade walnut stocks on this example are very good. It was custom ordered with a unique dish carved upper comb cheekrest on the left side. The original finish has thinned in areas from use & shows age crinkling, with some added oils to help protect the finish. The checkering pattern & lines are all still present, but rounded or smoothed in areas from use. There are some minor finish level scuff or scratches & a couple of small contusions at the wrist. The metal blue finish is excellent, rating at 99%. It has likely been professionally restored due to its full coverage, but shows no buff lines or thinning of engravings or markings. A job well done! The action is tight & smooth. Bore is very good. Factory buttplate. These custom shop, hand engraved, higher Grade model 10's are fairly scarce as compared to total production & are highly collectible. A sharp looking vintage shotgun. 13 7/8'' LOP.
