Harpers Ferry, Model: 1822 Musket converted to percussion, ''Indian Blanket Gun'', Cal: .69, MFG: 1832, S/N: None, Percussion Musket, 27 5/8'' barrel.
HISTORY: This gun has been cut down & wrapped with raw hide in the style of a old ''Indian Blanket Gun''. These were usually cheap muskets bought after the civil war that were cutdown & carried under the blankets commonly seen used by Native Americans at the time. A bunch of cheap muskets hit the US market after the civil war as the US wanted to switch cartridge guns, so they only kept the most advanced rifled muskets for short time use. So many muskets were produced for the war, these leftover muskets over saturated the market.
CONDITION: The straight wrist walnut stock is poor with many cracks, large chips/chunks missing, mainly around the forend. the wrist has been wrapped twice with raw hide, the hide is old & brittle. There is a symbol carved into the left cheek of the stock, appears as a ''V'' mixed with a ''A''. the metal has toned to a dark brown patina. Rust & pitting across all the metal. The nipple is mushroomed out. hammer locks into half-cock, but wont lock into full-cock. Lock/side plate missing the rear screw. The only visible markings are on the lock plate. the lock plate reads ''HARPERS'', ''FERRY'', ''1832'', & A American great eagle stamp over ''US''. Trigger guard tang stamped ''5''. The bore is poor. Dark with rust & pitting. No sights on the gun. The stock holds a metal buttplate. has pitting & patina. no sling loops & no ramrod present on the gun. Antique/Muzzleloader, No FFL Req - Value: 300 to 1000
