Tower, London, Model: 1797 Indian Pattern Brown Bess, Cal: .75, MFG: 1797-1803, S/N: None, Flintlock converted to percussion musket, 39 1/4'' barrel.
HISTORY: This gun comes the collection of the Canadian Collector of Fur Trade items, Robert (Bob) Cecil Hallam, & the famous collection of Mike Carrick. This gun was dug up in the 1980's from a garden in S.E. Edmonton (Strathcpma) Alberta Canada.
CONDITION: The straight wrist walnut stock is fair with numerous chips, cracks, & repairs around the stock. Chips missing from the top end of the forend. The stock has shrunk over the years & metal is proud to the wood in areas, especially at the toe. The right cheek of the stock has a storekeepers cartouche dated ''1803''. The metal has toned to a brown patina with areas of roughness/cleaned pitting. The rear of the barrel is marked with two worn British proofs. The rear of the barrel tang has a worn crown proof. The lock plate is marked ''TOWER'', a crown over ''G R'', & a small crown & arrow stamp. this brown Bess was converted to percussion by adding a block of steel with a cup into the jaws of the hammer, & replacing the pan & fire hole with a nipple for a cap. The bore is poor. Dark with rust & pitting & chunks flaking off. The barrel holds a square front sight. The stock carries a brass buttplate, with ding/nicks marks & light patina. The musket has no sling loops, hole through the forend where the front loops was. Musket has a ramrod. Antique/Muzzleloader, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2500
