Smith-Corona, Model M1903-A3, Cal: .30-06, MFG: 1943, S/N: 3700410, bolt action rifle, 24'' barrel.
HISTORY: Between 1941-42, Remington would start implementing simplifications to the M1903 rifle by replacing some milled parts of the rifle over to stamped in order to save time & money. They were small parts like the magazine followers, barrel bands, & trigger guards. Guns made by them or refurbished during this time could see a mix of parts. The military would adopt the M1903-A3 in May of 1942 & it would include all the simplifications done by Remington as well as replacing the rear sight with a aperture that was mounted to the rear of the receiver. Smith-Corona would get a contract to make M1903 rifles in February of 1942, but in May it was switched to the New 03-A3 model before any rifles could be made or delivered. They would make their first test batch of rifles in October & mass production began in November, a month ahead of Remington's initial delivery.
CONDITION: The semi-pistol grip walnut scant stock is very good with some minor nicks, dings, & scratches. stock has spots of oil stains. The Metal has an arsenal re-finish with spots of roughness under the finish & some markings being faded. The parkerized metal finish on the barrel rates 90% with minor thinning. The parkerized metal finish on the receiver rates 95% with light thinning. the receiver band is marked ''U.S.'', ''SMITH-CORONA'', ''MODEL 03-A3'', & the S/N. The top end of the barrel is marked ''S C'', flaming bomb, ''3-43''. The bolt handle is stamped ''8''. The bore is excellent. Bright & mirrorlike with little to no visible wear. Early four groove rifling barrel. The barrel holds a relaced, dovetail wide blade front sight with red paint. The receiver has mounted a fully adjustable, aperture rear sight. The stock carries a checkered parkerized steel, trapdoor buttplate. Nothing inside trapdoor. Rifle has both bottom sling loops with the third stacking swivel. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 650 to 1300
