Remington, Model M1903-A3, Cal: .30-06, MFG: 1942, S/N: 3475986, bolt action rifle, 24'' barrel.
HISTORY: Between 1941-42, Remington would start implementing simplifications to the M1903 rifle by replacing some milled parts of the rifle over to stamped in order to save time & money. They were small parts like the magazine followers, barrel bands, & trigger guards. Guns made by them or refurbished during this time could see a mix of parts. The military would adopt the M1903-A3 in May of 1942 & it would include all the simplifications done by Remington as well as replacing the rear sight with a aperture that was mounted to the rear of the receiver.
CONDITION: The straight wrist walnut stock is very good as being sanded & re-finished with a high gloss lacquer. Arsenal stock repair on the left side of the stock, by the buttplate. 1'' by 1 1/2'' section was plug filled & has two wooden dowel reinforcement. The bottom of the wrist has a partial worn ''P'' In circle firing proof. The bottom of the stock, just in front of the mag has four worn proofs. The left side of stock, above the trigger is stamped ''RA'' crossed cannon US acceptance stamp, ''FJA''. ''FJA'' is the initials of US inspector Lt.Col Frank J. Atwood. The Metal has arsenal re-finish. The parkerized metal finish on the barrel rates 95% with minor wear. The parkerized metal finish on the receiver rates 80% with spots starting to tone brown. the receiver band is marked ''U.S.'', ''REMINGTON'', ''MODEL 03-A3'', & the S/N. just under the S/N is a punch mark, this means the rifle was overhauled/re-furbished & re-proofed. The top end of the barrel is marked ''R A'', flaming bomb, ''2-43''. The bolt, magazine cutoff lever, & front sight are marked ''R'' for Remington. The bore is good. its bright with spots of roughness/light pitting. Early four groove rifling barrel. The barrel holds a blade front sight with a receiver mounted fully adjustable, aperture rear sight. The stock carries a checkered parkerized steel, trapdoor buttplate. Nothing inside trapdoor. Rifle has both bottom sling loops with the third stacking swivel. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 600 to 1200
