R.E. Terni, Model: M1891 Fucile Carcano, Cal: 6.5x52mm Carcano, MFG: 1918, S/N: BF2696, Bolt action rifle, 30 1/2'' barrel. The straight wrist walnut stock is very good with numerus nicks, dings, scratches & chips from use/age. Rear barrel band spring is stuck in the bottom position. The left cheek of the stock is marked with a Terni arsenal repair cartouche dated 1935 XIII, banner on bottom of cartouche reads ''Riparazone'' for repair. The cartouche is heavily worn & only parts are legible. Under the repair cartouche is marked with S/N. The blued metal finish rates 80% overall with light scattered patina & roughness on both the barrel & receiver above the stock. The blue under the wood is immaculate with little to no thinning or patina. The left side of the receiver is marked with two small proofs, one above the stock, one under. The bottom of the receiver is marked ''18'' & with a small ''MG'' in box stamp. The rear of the barrel is marked with two proofs, the S/N, ''TERNI'', ''18'', ''AT''. The bore is good. Its bright with consistent roughness throughout. The barrel holds a tall barleycorn front sight with a tangent, deep V-notch rear sight marked 6 to 20. the stock carries a steel buttplate that's toned to a brown patina. Rifle has both sling swivels & has a cleaning rod. Both have small nicks & dings. This rifle features a unique style of rifling call ''Gain Twist'' rifling. It starts slow at the chamber & progressively gets faster towards the muzzle. This was done to increase barrel life as they were having problems with throat (the rifling just after the chamber) erosion from heat, so gradually speeding up the bullet decreases the friction at the throat where the bullet first hits the rifling, decreasing wear. Later on, they found out the problem laid more with the type of power they were using burning too hot causing excess heat at the chamber & throat & would be removed in the later M38 WW2 models of the Carcano. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 600
