R.E. Terni, Model: M91/38 Fucile Corto Carcano, Cal: 6.5x52mm Carcano, MFG: 1940, S/N: AQ4110, Bolt action rifle, 21 barrel. The straight wrist walnut stock is very good with various nicks, dings, scratches & wear from use/age. The left cheek of the stock is marked with the S/N, & a heavily worn roundel cartouche, outline is visible, markings are illegible. The blued metal finish on the barrel has mostly toned to a brown patina scratches & ding marks showing gray, some blue remains around the stock line & protected areas. The blued metal finish on the receiver rates 40% with areas toning brown, spots of wear/thinning. The right rear of the receiver & the safety tab have been drilled to add red paint to mark the fire position. The receiver band is marked with two small proofs. The barrel is marked with the S/N, the worn crown over R.E., TERNI marking, 1940 XIX, 5, & a couple small proofs. The top of the rear sight is marked CAL.6,5. The top of the barrel, just in front of the upper handguard is stamped with import markings. Old grease inside the action. The bore is good. Its bright with thinned rifling & spots of roughness. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a fixed V-notch rear sight. The stock carries a steel trapdoor buttplate thats toned brown. Three-piece cleaning rod inside trapdoor. The rifle has both left side sling swivels. Rifle comes with a later M38 fixed blade bayonet with sheath & frog. The M38 Carcano was designed to use the New 7.35 x 51mm Carcano cartridge. But with WW2 starting right in the middle of the adoption process it was putting a logistical strain on production & Italy just needed rifles. Also, with two standard calibers being in use, this creates problems with getting troops the right ammo. In 1940 they would switch back to the older 6.5 x 52mm Carcano cartridge. Designation of these rifles are M91/38 to differ from the 7.35 Cal. M38. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 250 to 500
