Description

Springfield Armory, Model 1922 M2, Cal: .22 LR, S/N: 6565B, bolt action rifle, 24 '' barrel.

HISTORY: The Model 1922 was a cadet training rifle designed to mimic the M1903 Springfield. Three different version were made before production stopped at the beginning of WW2 with the shortages of materials making production of a training rifle impractical. The M2, introduced in 1933 had a simplified bolt, a shallower pistol grip & the ''M1922'' markings was removed from new production guns & were only marked ''M2''. The M2 also introduced a adjustable headspace mechanism in the locking lug to fix problems with the locking lugs cracking. older M1922M1 rifles that were updated were stamped with a second ''I'' by the model number, like the rifle here.

CONDITION: The aftermarket, pistol gripped, cheeked, monte Carlo walnut stock is excellent with little to no visible nicks or scratches. spots of added finish on the wrist. Capped forend & pistol grip. The parkerized metal finish retains almost full coverage with some universal thinning, spots of scratches & speckled brown patina on the barrel. The Receiver band is marked ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD'', ''ARMORY'', ''MODEL OD 1922'', ''MII CAL. .22'' & the S/N. the left side of the chamber is marked ''LONG RIFLE'', ''CART'GE ONLY''. The top end of the barrel is marked ''SA'' over a US ordnance flaming bomb, over ''10-38''. Right side of front sight ''2''. Bolt body marked ''M2'' & the root of the bolt handle marked ''NS'' over ''M2'', other side marked ''0''. The bore is excellent. It is bright & shiny with little visible wear. The barrel holds the original blade front sight. The rear of the receiver holds the original Lyman 48c peep sight that was used by the military. The rifle has no sling mounts. Comes with one magazine. Mechanical function appears fine. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 400 to 800
