EXTREMELY RARE & DESIRABLE Winchester Double W Cartridge Board. The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded by Oliver Winchester, who acquired the rights to the Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. from Smith & Wesson, producing some of the earliest & certainly most famous repeating cartridge rifles. The company would go on to dominate firearm manufacturing, innovation and were also competitive in the ammunition industry. Winchester was quite skilled at marketing both their firearms & ammunition. Part of their marketing efforts were these impressive display boards, such as this one. Over the years they displayed the evolution of metallic cartridges from rimfire to centerfire and black powder to smokeless powder. The company produced six different patterns of commercial bullet boards from 1874 to 1897. This example is an 1897 pattern ''Double-W'' Cartridge Display Board. This example shows honest wear for its age, with age soiling, spotting to the cartridges & some light deterioration, but this example is well preserved and ready to display. Some of the cartridges metal ties have protruded through the original paper backing, but a good portion of them still covered by the original paper backing. This board is 100% complete & original. A closeup of the Winchester ''Double W'' bullet board shows the painting of two hunters after the hunt by A.B. Frost. The display board also features a mallard duck in flight and a moose. These are extremely rare & desirable. This is your chance to own an amazing piece of Winchester history. ''Please hang in a prominent place''. Thats the request on the back of a Winchester cartridge display board. 58'' x 40 1/2''. Grade: Very Good - Value: 20000 to 50000
