J. Stevens & Co., Model No. 1 Tip-Up Rifle, Cal: 32 RF, MFG: 1870's-88, SN: 5389, Single shot, tip open, 24'' Octagon barrel, The original straight grip wood stock is very good, having been sanded & refinished. There are with several light scratches, scrapes & contusions remaining, & the finish shows thinning in areas. This model produced without a forend. Left side of barrel is marked ''J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS.MASS. PAT.SEPT.6.1864''. The metal blue finish to the barrel has worn & toned to an even thin brown patina. There are numerous small chatter marks or abrasions to the flats of the barrels. The receiver carries a nickel finish. Spur trigger guard. The barrel carries a fixed rear & small blade front sight. Bore is fair, with lots of roughness & pitting amongst worn rifling. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. This solid representative example of the early Stevens tip-up rifle.
