Description

Remington, M1903, Cal: .30-06, MFG: 1941, S/N: 3239027, bolt action rifle, 24'' barrel.

CONDITION: The straight wrist walnut stock is very good with various nicks, dings, scratches & gouges from use. The left flat of the stock is stamped ''RA-P'', ''RLB'', ''BA-WL''. The ''RA-P'' is a inspection/overhaul mark for the Raritan Arsenal in New Jersey during the war, the ''RLB'' is the initials for inspector Col. Roy L. Bowlin, who was the chief of the Rochester Ordnance District & his initials can be found Earlier Remington M1903 rifles. The ''BA-WL'' stamp means it was refurbished at the Benicia Arsenal in California some time during or after the war, & the ''WL'' mark is the inspector. The both of the wrist has the ''P'' in circle firing proofs & just in front of the magazine is four faded proof marks. The upper handguard is stamped ''D28179''. The metal carries a arsenal finish with some lightly thinned marks & a couple small spots of roughness under the finish. The green parkerized finish rates 97% overall with light wear & light scratches. The receiver band is marked ''U.S.'', over ''REMINGTON'', over ''MODEL1903'', over the S/N. The top end of the barrel is marked ''RA'', over flaming bomb, over ''9-42''. Bottom end of the barrel marked ''P''. Rear barrel band marked ''U''. The bolt handle is marked ''X'' indicating it was made by Commercial Controls, they made replacement 03-A3 bolts for rebuilding during WW2. Firing pin & magazine cutoff lever marked ''R'' for Remington. The bore is very good near excellent. It's bright & shiny with lightly thinned rifling. The barrel holds a blade front sight with a flip up ladder U-notch/ aperture rear sight marked 3 to 27. The stock carries a checkered, parkerized steel trapdoor buttplate. has some wear to checkering, nothing inside trapdoor. The stock carries both factory sling loops with the third stacking loop.
