Description

Tula, M1891 Mosin-Nagant, Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1917 , S/N: CN188684, Bolt action rifle, 31 1/4'' barrel.

HISTORY: This is the first official pattern of the Mosin-Nagant, but only in designation as this one was made after the 1908 upgrade to spitzer (pointed) bullets with the resulting recoil lug & the Konovalov rear sight to match, not the original flat leaf, stepped base/ladder rear sight.

CONDITION: The straight wrist arctic birch stock is good with smoothed over nicks, dings, & scratches from use. Stock has some slightly rough carving marks from rushed wartime MFG. There is a channel cut into the left edge of the stock next to the receiver, almost like someone was cutting it for a PU scope mount, but did not cut out the outer wall. Remining wood in that spot is thin & has a small crack at the top. The upper handguard is a replacement with a 4'' tight crack on the left at the rear through one of the rivets. Oil staining around the buttplate from being over oiled & stored upright. The left cheek is marked ''P'' & ''2''. The bottom of the stock, in front of the mag has a thinned ''5'' in circle stamp, more faded stamps inside the right finger groove. The metal carries a arsenal refinish with roughness under the finish & thinned/faded markings. The blued finish rates 95% on the receiver with light scratches & light thinning. The Finish on the barrel rates 90% with wear & scratches at the muzzle. The top of the receiver band is marked with a Russian acceptance stamp of a eagle over a Cyrillic ''P'', left side of the receiver marked with the S/N. The barrel Shank is marked in Cyrillic ''TULA'', ''EMPEROR'S'', ''PETER THE GREAT'', ''FIREARM FACTORY'', ''1917'', ''C'', the S/N, & three small proofs. The right & bottom end of the barrel are stamped with ''CAI'' import stamps. S/N matching buttplate & magazine floorplate. S/N mismatched bolt with its components being a mix of Tula & Izhevsk parts (all pre 1928 markings). Bore is fair. Its darkened with proud rifling throughout but worn smooth at the muzzle, & roughness/ light pitting throughout the bore. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a Konovalov V-notch rear sight. Sight markings are in ''Arshin'', a old Imperial Russian measurement. It equals to about 28 inches per Arshin. Has not been counter bored. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate, has finish wear showing gray on top ''hump'' & edges from shouldering. The stock has both sling wells, & comes with a incorrect M91/30 cleaning rod. Rifle also comes with a later M91/30 socket bayonet marked ''02'' & S/N ''DG1716''. There is old grease in the action & down in the trigger components causing the trigger pull to be mushy, rifle needs a good deep clean. Mechanical function appears solid. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 300 to 600
