Tula, M91/30 Mosin-Nagant (no import marking), Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1923 Receiver, 1943 barrel, S/N: Cyrillic ''ZHE''52104 , Bolt action rifle, 29'' barrel.
HISTORY: In 1930 the new Communist Russian government would update the Mosin-Nagant rifle. They would standardize on the earlier dragoon length barrel for all the infantry rifles & updated the sights to a post with globe front, & a flat leaf, ramped base notch rear, as well as a few other smaller internal changes. These were still made with a ''Hex'' receiver until 1936 when the round receiver was introduced. The receiver was originally from a M91 Mosin & is the original ''hex'' shape, with a M91/30 pattern barrel attached.
CONDITION: The straight wrist arctic birch stock is excellent as being lightly sanded & lacquered with only superficial nicks & scratches The stock is a Arsenal #1 (Balakliya Ukraine) made replacement. The cartouches on the stock are thinned/faded from the light sanding. The right cheek of the stock carries a square with diagonal line cartouche (arsenal #1 mark). There are more faded cartouches on both cheeks of the stock, belly, comb, wrist, in front of the magazine, & in both finger grooves on the side. The metal carries a arsenal refinish with light roughness in spots under the finish & thinned/faded markings. The blued finish rates 98% overall with light scratches on the barrel near the muzzle. The top of the receiver band is marked with a Tula hammer next to ''9'' & with a diamond refurbishment mark (the diamond mark is a unknown arsenal). The barrel Shank is marked a arrow inside a star, over ''1943r'', over ''No'', over the Russian S/N, a ''< I >'' mark, as well many smaller proofs. S/N matching bolt, buttplate, & magazine floorplate. All were forced matched with the older buffed number still slightly visible on the floorplate & buttplate, bolt S/N has buff marks under it & is stamped backwards ''401''. Bolt is a mix of pre & post 1928 Izhevsk parts. Bore is good. It's beginning to darken with proud rifling (thinned at the muzzle) & roughness throughout the bore. Has not been counter bored. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate, has finish wear on top ''hump'' & edges from shouldering. The stock has both sling wells, the cleaning rod, comes with a period correct canvas sling & added steel sling bars inside the wells. Mechanical function appears solid. A nice example of a post war refurbished Mosin-Nagant. FFL or C&R Re - Value: 350 to 700
