Izhevsk/Tula, M38 Mosin Nagant, Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1916 Rec. 1944 Barrel, S/N: EM434, Bolt action rifle, 20'' barrel.
HISTORY: The M38 is just the carbine version of the Mosin that was updated with the same sights & upgrades the M91/30 introduced. This rifle was made with a reclaimed Izhevsk 1916 MFG M91 ''Hex'' receiver, mated to a 1944 MFG Tula barrel. Could have been done at a different arsenal but most likely was done at Tula. The rifle in this configuration was also re-furbished/rebuilt many times with multiple repair markings on the barrel shank & stock.
CONDITION: The straight wrist arctic birch stock is very good as being lightly sanded & re-finished with a high gloss lacquer. Stock has some scuffs & scratches to the finish showing the exposed wood underneath. The stock has two arsenal repairs, one small wood fill on the bottom just in front of the magazine, as well as a toe repair/replacement. There are many worn cartouches dotted around the stock but most notably a Diamond refurbishment mark on the comb, & a diagonal line in square refurbishment mark on the right cheek. The metal carries multiple arsenal re-finish's roughness under the finish, & leaving some markings thinned or faded (some are just poorly struck as well). As well as a post import re-blue with the import markings being thinned & blued over. The blued metal finish rates 95% overall with light thinning & light wear on edge. The barrel shank is marked with a Tula star with straight line square refurb mark inside, over ''1944'', over ''NO'', over the S/N, over two more diagonal line in square refurb marks. The top of the receiver has faded import stampings. More small markings on barrel bands & rear of the receiver tang. S/N matching bolt, magazine floor plate, & buttplate. all were scrubbed & force matched with the floor plate having the old number lined out. The bore is good. beginning to darken, proud rifling with light roughness throughout the bore. Has been counter bored. The barrel holds a post front sight with protective globe. The rear sight is a tangent U-notch marked 1 to 10. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate. has roughness under the finish & light finish wear on edges. The stock has both factory sling wells. Rifle has a cleaning rod & comes with a modern green canvas sling with leather dog collars. Mechanical function appears solid. A unique hex receiver M38 with lots of interesting refurbishment markings showing this rifle was well used. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 350 to 700
